PvP unlocks at player level 20 and allows eligible players in the same location to fight one another. Victories increase Rampage and can provide additional post-fight choices, while defeat leaves the losing player injured.

General Rules
Direct player attacks
PVP is enabled after your account reaches level 20, before then you cannot be PVP'd in any capacity, this also means you must reach level 20 before you can PVP.

Rampage
Direct PvP unlocks at player level 20. Both the attacker and the target must be level 20 or higher and in the same location. You cannot attack a player who is traveling, injured, already fighting or already under attack.
Rampage is an experimental mechanic to judge and track how aggressive a player has been recently. Are they attacking everyone and anyone? Are they stealing from survivors' cars? Are they collecting ritualistic offerings? Rampage decreases your Agility and Speed by 1% for each level, even going as far as -100%.

Blackmarket
In the City, open another player's profile to attack them for 40 Energy. While exploring, you must find a player by scouting before you can attack them for 5 Energy.
When a player reaches level 10 Rampage, they are seen as trustworthy by the Blackmarket and get access to much cheaper resources and unique purchases. You can access the Blackmarket on the City page.

Scout PVP
Scouting while exploring
All explore areas have PVP enabled. Each location has it's own "area size" which dictates how complex it is to scout in that area for potential targets.

Binoculars
Scouting requires Binoculars in your vehicle, and each attempt consumes one. Only eligible level 20 or higher players who are currently at your location can be found.
To scout for players in explore locations, you must bring binoculars in your vehicle, and scout in the location which costs one binocular per scout. The binocular cost to scout 100% of a location is calculated from its Area Size.

For example a location with Area 20, would take 20 binoculars to search 100%. If it were Area 5, that would take 5 binoculars.
Each exploration location has an Area Size. One scouting attempt searches an equal share of the area, so an Area Size of 20 takes 20 attempts to reach 100%, while an Area Size of 5 takes five. Players are revealed from the eligible population as your search percentage increases.

Stealing
A player marked Left Area can no longer be attacked there. Your scout report is cleared after a PvP fight and when you complete another journey, so you may need to scout again.
After having scouted a player, and attacking them; if you succeed you can choose to steal from their vehicle. At that time you will receive up to 5kg of the items from their vehicles inventory.

PvP damage is reduced to one-fifth of the damage the same attack would otherwise deal. A fight has a 10-minute limit; if time runs out, it ends without a winner.

The defending player responds automatically using the Defense Strategy selected in Settings. This controls whether their equipped melee weapon, ranged weapon or fists are preferred. PvP unlocks at player level 20 and allows eligible players in the same location to fight one another. Victories increase Rampage and can provide additional post-fight choices, while defeat leaves the losing player injured.

Direct player attacks

Direct PvP unlocks at player level 20. Both the attacker and the target must be level 20 or higher and in the same location. You cannot attack a player who is traveling, injured, already fighting or already under attack.

In the City, open another player's profile to attack them for 40 Energy. While exploring, you must find a player by scouting before you can attack them for 5 Energy.

Scouting while exploring

Scouting requires Binoculars in your vehicle, and each attempt consumes one. Only eligible level 20 or higher players who are currently at your location can be found.

Each exploration location has an Area Size. One scouting attempt searches an equal share of the area, so an Area Size of 20 takes 20 attempts to reach 100%, while an Area Size of 5 takes five. Players are revealed from the eligible population as your search percentage increases.

A player marked Left Area can no longer be attacked there. Your scout report is cleared after a PvP fight and when you complete another journey, so you may need to scout again.

Fighting another player

PvP damage is reduced to one-fifth of the damage the same attack would otherwise deal. A fight has a 10-minute limit; if time runs out, it ends without a winner.

The defending player responds automatically using the Defense Strategy selected in Settings. This controls whether their equipped melee weapon, ranged weapon or fists are preferred. Armour does not lose condition during PvP, but weapons can still lose condition and ranged weapons still use ammunition.

If the attacker loses, they are injured for their normal recovery time. Winning adds one Rampage level and gives the attacker two minutes to choose what happens next. If no choice is made, the game selects Leave.

After winning

Choice Cost Result Injury
Leave None None 15 minutes
Take Bone Offering 10 Energy Awards Bone Offerings. 15 minutes
Hospitalize 60 Energy None Base time of 3 hours
Steal From Vehicle 5 Energy Random eligible items are moved from the defeated player's vehicle to yours. 15 minutes

The defeated player's Rank increases the Bone Offering reward. Repeated wins against the same player among your latest ten PvP wins reduce it, but the repeat handicap cannot fall below 20%. There is no timed reset: an older win stops affecting the reward only when it falls outside your latest ten PvP wins. Effects that alter victim injury time can change the base Hospitalize duration. Steal From Vehicle is available outside the City.

Steal From Vehicle selects eligible cargo stacks randomly. Items that cannot be traded and Zed Packs are excluded. No more than the rounded-up half of all eligible item units can be stolen, and their combined weight cannot exceed 5 kg. Only whole units that fit within the remaining allowance are taken; a stack that is too heavy is skipped. A partly stolen stack can be selected again while units remain.

For example, three 1 kg Scrap and two 2 kg Fuel make five eligible units, so no more than three units can be stolen. The random selection must also remain within the 5 kg total.

Rampage

Every PvP victory adds one Rampage level, including victories while contesting an Outpost or attacking a Stronghold. Each level contributes −1 percentage point to Speed and Agility. Rampage combines with other percentage modifiers, which are applied after flat stat modifiers. Final Speed and Agility cannot fall below 1.

For example, with no other percentage modifiers, 25 Rampage reduces a Speed value of 120 after flat modifiers to 90.

Rampage lasts for 24 hours. Winning another PvP fight adds another level and restarts the 24-hour timer. When the timer expires, the Rampage effect is removed.

Blackmarket

The Blackmarket appears on the City page while you have at least 10 Rampage. It offers cheaper resources and unique items, but access is lost when your Rampage falls below the requirement.

Outposts and Strongholds

An Outpost takeover or Stronghold attack can begin a PvP fight when its owner is present and able to defend. These fights resolve the takeover or attack directly, so they do not offer the usual post-fight choices. A victory still increases Rampage.
