Exploration lets you leave the city in a vehicle, travel to remote locations, and bring the supplies you find back to your Stronghold. It is unlocked once you have built and upgraded the Garage far enough to obtain a vehicle.

Unlike Scavenging, exploring is a journey: choose a destination, prepare your vehicle, wait for the trip to finish, work through the location's zones, and then travel back to the city.

Explore areas allow PvP

Other players can scout and attack you at every Explore location. After winning, an attacker can steal up to 5 kg from your vehicle cargo. Carry only what you are prepared to risk.

Choosing a location

Open the Explore page and choose a destination. Locations are grouped into Easy, Medium, and Hard categories. Each entry shows its difficulty, travel time, and travel cost. Locations inside each category are ordered by travel time and then difficulty.

Travel time and fuel cost can change with your active vehicle and its upgrades. A faster vehicle reduces journey time, while better fuel efficiency reduces the fuel required, to a minimum cost of 5 fuel.

Preparing to travel

Select a location to review it before leaving. The location screen shows:

  • its zones and whether each zone is locked or unlocked;
  • discovered activities and their current state, including active timers, cooldowns, unlocks, and rewards ready to collect;
  • recommended items for the activities at that location;
  • location effects; and
  • the contents and weight of your vehicle.

Use the Load to Vehicle button to move any available recommended items from your inventory into the vehicle. You can also add or remove items manually. Recommended items are based on the location's activities, so checking this list before setting out can save a return trip.

Your vehicle has a weight limit. If it is overweight, travel is restricted until enough cargo is removed. When ready, select Travel. The required travel items are consumed and the Traveling screen shows your destination and remaining journey time. Travel can only be canceled during the short cancellation window shown there.

At the location

After arriving, explore the available zone and complete its scavenging, hunting, combat, gate, and other location activities. Some activities run on timers or cooldowns, and later zones may remain locked until their unlock conditions are met. Activities you have not discovered yet appear as Undiscovered.

Loot is stored in your vehicle, so keep its remaining capacity in mind. You cannot travel while the vehicle is overweight. When you have finished, use Return to City and wait for the return journey to complete. You can unload the vehicle once you are back in the city.

Outposts

Many explore locations contain Outposts that provide production bonuses. Outposts can be taken by other players, so ownership is not permanent. Taking over an unoccupied outpost requires at least 1 Explosive.
